Products I've used up + Reviews

This tag has been spreading like wildfire recently, and I thought I'd have a go at it. I think it's a great idea, seeing as so many people these days use a product for 5 minutes and then they suddenly announce to the blogosphere how in love with it they are. It takes more than a few uses to truly see results (with skincare, anyway). Let's get started!

Group photo! AWW.

elf white nail polish: First off, I'd just like us all to take a moment to acknowledge the fact that I have indeed gone where very few have gone before: I FINISHED A WHOLE BOTTLE OF NAILPOLISH. Woop woop! I don't know if it's just the fact that I've had this for over 2 years, or if it's just not that great. I didn't really find that the consistency of this was my favorite, and the brush was incredibly annoying, as there were stray hairs everywhere. Overall: 1 out of 5

soap and glory 'great shakes' hand cream: I was always told by my friends that Hand Food was supposed to be the knockout Soap and Glory hand cream, and that it was always the one they'd purchase when in need of a good hand cream. To be honest, I think the only reason they loved it that much was because it had marshmallow in it, and that it smelled really yummy.  I do like this one, however, and I like that it's supposed to prevent your hands from wrinkling (it's never too early!). Not too sticky, and it's easily absorbed. Smells like... well, all the Soap and Glory Products. Overall: 3 out of 5

lee stafford '2nd day hair' leave-in conditioner: I have a little bit left of this, but I've had a little bit left of this for a long time and I just never mustered up the willpower to finish the whole bottle. It has that same perfume-y smell of all the Lee Stafford products, and when applied correctly (sprayed far far away from the hair, at least 30 times) it could work wonders. I don't think I'd repurchase this anytime soon. Not because it's not a good product, but because I really enjoy trying new ones. Overall: 3 out of 5

aquolina vanilla and coconut body fragrance: I'm a big fan of most Aquolina products. They all smell really yummy; it's like walking into a bakery. I really did not waste any time finishing this, because I was absolutely addicted to the smell. It's the Vanilla and Coconut scent, and it's more on the coconut-y side (so if you're not a big fan of coconut scents, I don't recommend this). Staying power was great too, considering it's not a perfume. Overall: 4 out of 5

clinique 'dramatically different' moisturizing gel: Holy grail moisturizer. I know many of you will be all "really? There are so many better ones out there!" but I find that even though sometimes this doesn't moisturuze well enough, it never leaves my skin with a negative result. I truly truly love this. If you have drier skin, I recommend the cream formula, but I have never tried it. This is also great for before applying your make-up, because the formula isn't sticky and absorbs really well. Overall: 4 out of 5

mark hill spray heat-protector: I LOVE THIS. Perfect heat protectant. Eliminates frizz (countless times has a product said that on the bottle, and in the end the product really doesn't cater to it's promises at ALL. But this one does.), gives shine, and more importantly protects the hair from heat. The mist is not too wet; it's the perfect amount when you spray it.  It's discontinued in the Boots where I live, so I'm pretty sad about that, considering I cannot  for the life of me find a better heat protectant than this one. Overall: 4.5 out of 5

lee stafford 'souffle souffle' shampoo: It smells good, and lathers nicely. To be honest, it's just a shampoo to me. It changed nothing in the overall texture of my hair. That's not really a bad thing, but I'm looking for shampoos that make more of a difference to the way my hair feels. Overall: 2.5 out of 5

sephora 'instant moisture mask': Although "instant" is kind of an exaggeration, I was really impressed with this. It doesn't do what a good moisturizer would do for your face, but it leaves your face with a matte, yet moisturized (makes sense? hahah) texture. I really love the packaging; it has separate sachets of the mask that you mix with water in the cup shown above. Cute little extra. Overall: 3.5 out of 5

bath and body works 'twilight woods' body spray: Not a fan of the Bath and Body Works body spray range. I don't feel like they try hard enough, and even though there are many scents to choose from, the smell fades in about 20 minutes, and you're back to square one. There are so many body sprays out there (ie. the ones from Victoria's Secret, or the Body Shop ones) that actually have better lasting power. I got this in a gift, and I don't usually find myself gravitating towards Bath and Body Works in general. (Their anti-bacs are great, though! And so are their candles).

inecto 'pure coconut oil' leave in conditioner: This smells really really good to me, mainly because I love coconut-y scents. I actually stopped using leave-ins because I'm finding that they sometimes contribute more to making my hair frizzy. This one, I can't really complain about, though. It's more creamy and the formula is actually pretty rich and moisturizing. Overall: 3.5 out of 5

avene spf 25 sunscreen for baby: Yes, I am 100% aware that I am in fact not a baby (anymore). I really like this. It's a non-sticky formula, and it works well on both the face and body (even before applying make-up), What more can I really say? It's sunscreen. Overall: 4 out of 5

benefit 'eyecon' eye cream: I really do love this. I think it's such a great consistency, and it works wonders for moisturizing the area under my eyes. I also find that the more I use this, the more awake my eyes look. I'm finding it hard to get a hold of this now, as the new skincare packaging (and formulas?) from Benefit are being promoted, and I can rarely find this anymore.

body shop 'lychee blossom' shower gel: I have a love/hate relationship with this shower gel. I don't know whether to like that the scent is so subtle, or whether to be annoyed by it. It doesn't really lather all that much, but I love that this has honey in it. I wouldn't purchase this scent again, as I prefer more prominent ones. Overall: 2.5 out of 5

l'oreal 'elnett satin' hairspray: I don't know how many bottles I've finished of this. I just can't seem to find another hairspray that does the job better than this. I like my hold to be medium to gentle, and not plastic-strong. For those of you who prefer mega-holding power, this is probably not for you (the Aussie one and the Tresseme ones hold amazingly, for those who want a stronger hold.) How many times have I said hold in this? Hold, hold, hold. Overall: 3.5 out of 5

mac 'select cover-up' concealer: I don't really know if I like this. I've tried other concealers from MAC and they do the job much better. I like the studio-sculpt ones, and I would not repurchase this, as the coverage is mediocre. Overall: 2 out of 5

estee lauder 'magnascopic' and bourjois 'yes to volume, no to clumps' mascaras: I AM SO GLAD I FINISHED THESE TWO MASCARAS. The one from Estee-Lauder clumps like mad, and the Bourjois one literally does nothing. Both wands are horrendous, and they have no positive impact on my lashes what-so-ever. Overall: 1.5 out of 5 (to both.)

  1. Thanks for the tips...I'm off to try that MArk Hill spray now. Anything that will eliminate (or promise to) that layer of fuzz on my head is worth trying.

    1. You're most welcome :) Although, if frizz really is an issue for you, why don't you try the natural DIY mask I posted about earlier? It's deep conditioning especially targeted towards frizz.

  2. I use Maybelline Full N'Soft mascara and it rocks! Never clumps, and it leaves my eyelashes looking naturally full.
